Mission
Playing softball can help girls become healthy and confident. Studies show that girls between the ages of 6-16 benefit from playing sports, as it positively impacts them in the following areas:
Social
While playing on a team, the girls will get to know each, support each other and have fun with each other. Lasting friendships have been made on the softball field.
Physical
Softball is a great introductory sport for young girls as it is not as aerobically challenging as other team sports such as soccer and lacrosse. The fundamentals of softball all have a positive influence on a girl’s physical well-being. Throwing, fielding, catching and batting all help improve hand-eye coordination.
Emotional
There are a lot of positive side effects to team sports. Girls that play sports are more likely to get better grades, have a positive body image, and higher self-esteem.
Babe Ruth Softball League Since its inception in 1984, Babe Ruth Softball has grown tremendously to become a premier softball program throughout the United States and Canada-and is also the fastest growing division in Babe Ruth League, Inc.Designed for girls ages 4-18, age divisions offered include: 8 & Under, 10 & Under, 12 & Under, and 14 & Under The primary emphasis of Babe Ruth Softball is on education, skill development, participation for all levels of ability and of course, having fun.
Babe Ruth Softball is about - as much as anything else - community. One of BGSL's main objectives is built around this philosophy, that a youth athletic program should be a part of and contributor to the community in which it is organized.

With your 2024 spring registration we will provide a game day jersey.
To complete your uniform, you will need to purchase orange socks, black pants and orange belt that you will provide.
This can be ordered on Amazon, Dicks Sporting Goods, or any sports apparel store.
Glove, batting gloves, and equipment bag is the responsibility of the player to have when they coming to winter warmup clinics. Sneakers only on the gym floors.
No metal cleats othe fields. Here's a list of suggested equipment -
All players are required to wear helmets with a faceguard while batting or in the on-deck circle (on the field, next up to bat). We do provide helmets, but a lot of parents would rather buy their own.
Label EVERYTHING!
We find stuff, and people tell us they've misplaced stuff all the time. "It was a girls softball glove with pink on it" is useless .... They all have Girls softball gloves with pink on them ;)
A bat should be light enough for the player to hold in their strong hand at arms length for 15-30 seconds. It should be as long as possible, as long as it's still light enough to hold. More info is below.
face shields are required for pitchers in intermediates, and highly recommended for first and third base. . All Intermediates players should show up at the field with one available.
Players with braces should wear face shields at all times (ask your dentist...).
